Looking for a rewarding career in which you can help people but that will provide some stability as well? If so, you might be considering something in the medical field. However, you might be a little wary about having to go to school for four to ten years before you can get your first job.

Fortunately, there are several different hospital jobs that don't require a degree, which means that you won't have to pour money and time into an education just so that you can help people as a career. The following are a few examples of hospital jobs you can get without a degree:

Start your CMA Process Now

  • Licensed practical nurse (LPN) - LPNs often work for RNs and physicians. They have many responsibilities, including administering medication, taking vitals, dressing wounds, maintaining medical records, and more. While LPN positions are available in different environments throughout the medical industry, the majority work in long-term care, such as at a patient's home or in a nursing home. Certification is required to become an LPN, although most LPN programs only take between 12 months and 18 months in order to complete.

  • Registered nurse (RN) - Out of all the people working in the healthcare system, RNs make up the largest percentage of them. However, there is still a huge demand for RNs. This is because they work directly with physicians to help examine and treat patients. There are several ways that you can become an RN, which is why it's important to identify the best RN program that meets your needs.. You can earn an associate's degree, a bachelor's degree or a diploma from a nursing school. An RN position is one of the highest paying positions you can obtain in the medical field without going to medical school - although the higher your education is, the more you'll earn. RNs can work in a variety of environments, but the majority of them work in hospitals.

  • Medical assistant - Medical assistants help physicians and nurses with both administrative and clinical duties. For example, they will record the patient's medical history and take their vitals before relaying that information to the physician. Most medical assistant training programs take around a year to complete, while an associate's degree will take two years. It's worth noting that you can get on-the-job training with a physician, but not many will be willing to provide training to someone without any kind of experience, which is why completing a basic program is a good way to go.

  • Phlebotomist - Phlebotomists are individuals who draw blood from patients. Phlebotomy certification is required, which can take anywhere from six to twelve weeks to obtain following standard training, which can take up to a year. Phlebotomists must be familiar with lab procedures, venipuncture, and safety rules. They can work in numerous environments, including hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and blood donation centers, to name a few.
  • Ultrasound technician - Ultrasound technicians, which are also known as diagnostic medical sonographers, use specialized equipment to record images of a patient's internal organs using high-frequency sound waves. They are commonly used by doctors for diagnosing certain problems as well as in pregnancies. A two-year associate's degree or certification is all that is needed.

These are just a few of the hospital jobs that you could obtain without having to earn a four-year degree. Not only are these jobs available without such a degree, but they are in high demand, making them excellent options for anyone looking to pursue a career in the medical field.
